Department Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Generalist Division working here in the Center for Women’s Health is a member of a multi-disciplinary team and has the primary responsibility for and provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients. This includes representing the practice both in person and on the telephone, other OHSU departments, and non OHSU facilities. The Nurse will also be providing direct patient care in the CWH infusion room.  The Registered Nurse assesses patient and family needs, develops a plan of care, implements and evaluates the care delivered.  The Registered Nurse is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period.   Able to lift 50 lbs independently.  Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when  lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.   
  • Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking.  Reasonable accommodations include  corrective lenses and/or hearing aids
  • The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation. 
  • Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers, including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients, families, and other personnel. 
  • Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment.   Significant use of computers, copiers, multi-line phones, and fax. 
  • Ability to type 50 wpm.

Required Qualifications

Department Specific Qualifications/Requirements (competencies, equipment, certifications, etc.):

  • BSN for external hires; BSN preferred for internal candidates
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license
  • Current BLS required at time of hire
  • 4 year Nursing Degree from an accredited college
  • 2 years experience as a RN
  • 1 year phone triage experience
  • 1 year phlebotomy experience
  • Ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations.  Understands the procedures for medical emergencies, as well as other disaster situations.
  • Excellent communication skills via telephone.
  • Excellent organization skills

For the KPV Procedure room and Recovery room- any RN working in the Family Planning Procedure clinic must have had 1 year recent PACU experience or have had 1 year experience in any outpatient clinic or procedure clinic. 

10 % - Performing Moderate Sedation in the Procedure rooms - RN’s who also perform Moderate Sedation in the Family Planning clinic, the RN must possess ACLS, BLS, and have completed the OHSU required Moderate Sedation Module, and have one year experience performing moderate sedation.

10 % IV Hydration  & Medication Infusions – The RN performing IV Hydration & Medication infusion must have had 1 year recent experience starting IV’s, infusing medication (i.e. Iron infusions using a pump) and performing blood transfusions.

  • BSN Nursing degree
  • 2 year current experience in OB/GYN
  • 2 years’ experience in outpatient clinic
  • 1 year conscious sedation experience
  • 1 year experience starting and maintaining IV’s for Hydration/Blood Transfusions/Medication Infusions
  • Ability to maintain a smooth operation of the entire practice, using problem-solving and decision-making combined with sound clinical judgments.
  • Assists provider with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and treatments as needed in the clinic.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations.  Understands the procedures for medical emergencies, as well as other disaster situations.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Excellent leadership skills
