RWJUH is seeking a Director of Nursing for our Pediatric Operating Room at the New Brunswick campus. This is a full-time, day shift position.

Core Responsibilities:

• The Nursing Director is a registered professional nurse who coordinates available resource to efficiently and effectively provide nursing care of a quality consistent with the RWJUH Standards of Care
• He/She is responsible for the daily operations of the unit
• Responsible for interviewing/hiring of all personnel in the department, ensuring that each staff completes the unit-based orientation within the expected time frame
• Coordinates and integrates services within his/her department and with other departments
• Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support those services
• In conjunction With Senior Nursing Management, develop staffing standards to provide appropriate levels of patient care
• Determines the qualification and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services
• Continually assess and improve their department's performance by participating in the institution's and unit's continuous performance improvement program
• Maintains knowledge of the institutional performance improvement plan and communicates the plan to staff
• Facilitates the participation in performance improvement including training in the basic approaches and providing adequate time to complete the process
• Ensures the inclusion of patient safety and quality into department activities/initiatives e.g. policies, procedures, performance improvement
• Communicates and documents RWJUH safety and quality initiatives and information to front-line staff at least during staff meetings as a regular agenda item
• Provides open lines of communication for reporting medical errors and 'near misses' using RWJUH organizational tools and resources
• Adopts at least two patient safety/quality initiatives from the National Quality Forum Safety Practices, or other credible safety/quality agency, as pertinent to the scope of services and demonstrates improvement in performance over time
• Considers performance on safety and quality indicators in employee performance appraisals
• Maintains hospital and unit-based standards of care according to the hospital mission, nursing philosophy that facilitates excellence in clinical practice and AORN, ASPAN recommended standards of practice
• Demonstrates the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to make decisions regarding the provision of age appropriate care on the unit

Education:

• Active, valid NJ RN license
• BSN required, MSN and CNOR preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)

Experience:

• 5 years of clinical experience in the Operating Room required
• Must have prior leadership experience in an Operating Room
• 2-5 years related previous management experience required
