JOB DESCRIPTION:
Candidate will be strategic, detail-oriented, organized with excellent communication and consulting skills. Able to develop and implement strategic clinical programs, gaining advocacy for these programs at senior levels.
Supports USPI ASCs and hospitals in driving improvement in clinical quality, risk management, patient safety, culture of safety and the patient experience by providing the resources, training and tools that reduce variation from evidence based best practices and improve outcomes. The Group Chief Nursing Officer provides oversight of performance and strategic leadership to market CNOs for nursing and clinical operations in alignment with Tenet strategic objectives and facility goals.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing senior “consultative” support at all levels within Tenet and USPI. This will include being able to advise and influence senior Tenet, USPI, physician and hospital partners as it relates to clinical quality and process.
Design and delivery of ongoing education, developing and updating clinical policies and job aides with regulatory standards, webinars, and clinical meetings based on ambulatory surgery and hospital standards
Working with ASCs and hospitals with significant clinical events and ensure a thorough root cause analysis was performed and process improvement measures are in place to mitigate future incidents.
Proactively review clinical outcomes and metrics to identify outliers and implement performance improvement across the organization.
Developing critical pathways for to implement to ensure we are meeting the regulatory standards of care
Collaborate with Cerner team to develop clinical quality networks to enhance the clinical quality aspects of the system and advocating for safety measures
Coach, mentor, and direct CNOs in their performance:
Use the CNO dashboard for targets.
Key performance indicators are implemented.
Identify clinical, operational, and leadership issues inhibiting accomplishment goals and actively problem solve with the CNOs
Know state of facility leadership positions- vacancies, leader assessments
Creative market tactics are in place to reduce nursing turnover and increase recruiting and retention
Engage in frequent, active coaching of CNOs
Focus on developing your CNOs through constructive feedback, review of performance (outcomes), removal of barriers and sharing of resources
Help coordinate and call to attention resources needed to support the CNOs in achieving goals.
Standardize clinical resources/services across markets and drive best practices across the group.
Collaborate with market leadership to develop strategies and plans to achieve the right outcomes.
Partner with management and clinical leaders at the market facilities in decision making and provide evaluation, review, and recommendations for optimization of services and programs, and oversight of safe patient care at the facility level
Participate in Group meetings
Be influential in Strategic Planning
Have a strong foundation in financial management, ensuring market CNO’s and their leaders meet productivity targets and manage within budget.
Be visible, available, and engaged with your senior leaders, market leaders, and RVPs.
. Drive CNO engagement
Know the issues going on at the individually facilities and support and guide the CNOs through the issues.
Ensure information flows up and down from the CNO to and from you.
Understand the tactics and strategies that are being rolled out in your group.
Provide performance management of the CNOs. If you have CNOs who are not contributing and/or are not results-focused, you have the opportunity to lead up and make a change.
Regular assessment/evaluation of the talent/skills/competencies of the CNOs
Provide the hospital CEO and Group CEO, feedback on their CNOs performance.
Provide ongoing individual feedback to the CNOs- formally mid-year and end of year.
Interview candidates for CNO positions within your Group. Provide feedback to CEO and Dallas team.
Keep Tenet/USPI CNO informed of sensitive, media generating, potential regulatory/legal issues
Keep Tenet/USPI CNO informed of CNO performance issues
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Qualifications
Minimum of 15 years’ clinical, operational and management experience
Minimum Master’s degree or equivalent post-graduate degree
Demonstrated ability to create/design process improvement plans, gaining buy-in for adoption and implement across the organization.
Demonstrated ability to be a “clinical advisor” at senior levels in an organization. Able to create innovative and strategic solutions to problems
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage people including matrixes reporting relationships
Demonstrated ability to analyze data and utilize the data into process improvement areas
Previous industry experience driving adoption of clinical initiatives through Operations, effectively partnering with the Home Office, field leaders, health systems and physician partners
Credibility and ability to build relationships in order to identify needs and provide necessary support and leadership.
Prior experience developing focus groups to review and improve clinical quality processes across the company
Experienced and proficient with clinical regulatory standards and accreditation for hospitals
Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
Must have an active RN license
