ELLISON 16- Solid Tumor, Chemotherapy Desensitization, & Immunotherapy Complications 

The inpatient oncology advanced practice team has an over 10-year history of continued growth, with a demonstrated history of providing exquisite, evidence-based patient care! This is a fantastic opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to work in this invigorating and collaborative environment! The Inpatient Oncology APP on Ellison 16 will provide direct care to the inpatient solid tumor & immunotherapy oncology population on a dedicated advanced practice service. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the attending physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and ambulatory disease team to facilitate the care of these patients across the continuum. Within this role, the advanced practice provider will serve as the responding clinician and be responsible for a panel of patients. Other responsibilities include caring for these patients throughout their acute hospitalization and foster collaboration with other professionals within the hospital to facilitate care.  




Develops, implements, and evaluates a plan of specialized health care for a select oncology patient population.  Promotes a professional and collaborative relationship within the advanced practice team, consult teams, and professional nursing staff. Strives to provide continuity of care for patients, while being efficient in use of resources. Serves as a role model for professional advanced practice. Participates in professional development of the team (teaching, committee involvement, quality & safety, etc.) 



Provides direct care to a select oncology patient population in collaboration with the attending physician. 

  • Performs and records the patient history and physical exam and discusses findings with the collaborating physician. 

  • Utilizes advanced practice knowledge to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems. 

  • Follows and manages patients (in collaboration with MD) enhancing continuity of care including admitting and discharging. 

  • Performs (oversees/assures completion of) specialized procedures particular to the select oncology population mutually agreed upon with collaborating physician. 

  • Collaborates with unit staff and physicians to facilitate a comprehensive plan of care and coordinate resources and write appropriate orders. 

  • Maintains and practices in accord with provider guidelines per state and hospital regulations 

  • Provides consultation to both nurses and physicians and serves as a resource to staff in area(s) of expertise. 

  • Serves on appropriate intra and interdepartmental committees. 

  • Develops educational programs within area of expertise. 

  • Collaborates with unit staff, Clinical Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Specialists and other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs. 

  • Monitors patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care. 

  • Identifies system-wide factors contributing to undesirable outcomes, such as complications, increased length of stay and over utilization of services. 

  • Supports and conducts research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice. 

  • Evaluates own practice and program effectiveness. 

  • Evaluates current research findings for clinical specialty and determines applicability to unit practice. 

  • Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials. 

  • Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure. 

  • Takes responsibilities for leadership and participation on committees and task forces within patient care services and the hospital. 

  • Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research.

  • Ellison 16 is a 36-bed oncology unit, located on the inpatient hospital (Main) campus.  

  • Providers are responsible for 24/7 coverage.  

  • Shifts are 13hrs. Days: (6:30am-7:30pm), Evenings: 10am-11:30pm) and Nights: (6:30pm-7:30am). Responsible for covering days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.  

  • Must be able to obtain proficiency of hospital-based computer systems to independently perform daily tasks. 

  • Demonstrated competence in specialized area.
