The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health (VDH) State Health Commissioner has designated LewisGale Medical Center as a Level II Trauma Center. The designation recognizes the hospital’s commitment to providing optimal care for sudden, life-threatening injuries. As a designated Level II Trauma Center, the prompt, comprehensive critical care provided by the hospital not only benefits local residents, but also outlying areas as it now serves as a back-up care center for rural and community hospitals.

LewisGale Medical center was named Regional Business of the year during the annual 2023 awards banquet organized by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce. The hospital was recognize for the $350 million economic impact in the region, expanding patient access points including opening our second freestanding emergency room, Blue Hills ER, breaking ground on our long awaited intermediate Level II neonatal intensive care unit, and partnering with Galen School of Nursing to open its Roanoke Campus.
