About Seattle Children's

About Us

We are united by a compelling mission: We provide hope, care and cures to help every child live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible.

Together, we deliver superior patient care, advance new discoveries and treatments through pediatric research and serve as the pediatric and adolescent academic medical center for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho – the largest region of any children’s hospital in the country.

In 2018, U.S. News & World Report once again ranked Seattle Children’s among the nation's best children's hospitals – for the 26th year in a row. We received national rankings in all 10 specialty areas evaluated by U.S. News & World Report, and are honored to be the only pediatric medical center in Washington to be ranked.

Hope. Care. Cure.

These three simple words capture what we are here to do. That’s because at Seattle Children’s, compassionate care, breakthrough research and generous donors come together every day for children who need us.

Our Culture

Our inclusive, collaborative culture is reflected in our ART service standards: Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork. We strive to be ARTful in all we do with every member of the team ⎼ patients, families and each other.

We prioritize the safety of both our patients and our employees. Work-life balance is important to us, and our benefits show it. In hiring, we aim to have a workforce that reflects our patient families. We serve our community with compassion.

All of this makes our people proud to be here. If you join our team, we trust you also will find Seattle Children’s a meaningful and fun place to work.

Start With Safety

Everyone at Seattle Children’s is responsible to create a safe environment for our patients, families and each other. We strive to be an error-free environment. We are transparent in providing information about patient safety.

Our safety culture includes reducing staff injuries and safeguarding our patients. We ensure staff have the support they need when faced with adversity.

Seattle Children’s is committed to being a drug-free workplace. We require a pre-employment drug screen and background check. The use of marijuana for medical purposes accompanied by a prescription, even if permitted by state law, will not be considered acceptable for purposes of explaining a positive lab test result for marijuana.

Diversity

Valuing Workforce Diversity and Inclusion

The patients and families we serve at Seattle Children’s come from many backgrounds. They bring distinct values, family structures, strengths and needs. The same is true for the people who do their life’s work here.

The people who work at Seattle Children’s are members of a community that seeks to respect all the qualities that make each of us unique – race, gender, culture, lifestyles, physical and developmental challenges, ideas and beliefs.

Our community welcomes diverse experiences, backgrounds, and thoughts because this is what drives our spirit of inquiry and allows us to better connect with our increasingly diverse patients and families. Each of us is respectfully encouraged to be ourselves within this community, which cultivates and promotes diversity and inclusion at all levels.

Seattle Children's aims to have a workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We believe we give our patients better care by having staff whose beliefs, attitudes and life experiences are similar to those of our patient families. Learn about our Center for Diversity and Health Equity, which works to improve health outcomes for all children.

Bonnie Fryzlewicz, RN, MN, NE-BC, Vice President, Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer

I am honored to work alongside an incredible team of compassionate, caring nurses at Seattle Children’s. Without their commitment to our patients and families, we couldn’t be successful in fulfilling our mission and vision.

Seattle Children’s nurses embody our organization’s values of compassion, excellence, integrity, collaboration, equity and innovation. The impactful care they provide and their drive to improve are reflected in our many awards and honors, especially in our Magnet designation for excellence in nursing services. In 2018, we were recognized for our third consecutive Magnet designation.
